I've been nominated! / Liebster Award

I've been nominated for this award by Yas Elle and I'm so thankful for it, I'm really hoping it will do its job and motivate me to become a better blogger.

RULES:
  • State 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers and set 11 questions for them to answer
  • Include the Liebster Award logo in your post and/or the side bar

11 FACTS ABOUT MYSELF:

  • I was born on Thursday the 25th of June 1998 at 00:15
  • I have a cat called Dora and she's my baby
  • I want to be a forensic scientist
  • I am incredibly shy
  • I'm left handed
  • I have the longest Wishlist ever but I don't actually own much makeup (though my mum would disagree)
  • I'm targeted for an A in all of my GCSE's
  • My star sign is cancer
  • I'm hoping to do Maths, Biology, ICT and Law for my A-Levels
  • I'm single and always have been
  • I've been to Hawaii, LA and Florida
MY QUESTIONS:

1 - What is your favourite thing about blogging?
It's really hard to pick just one thing, but probably that I can share my thoughts on a product and     immediately get a response with other people's thoughts.
2 - Are you an organised blogger, if so in what way?
I tried to be at first, it at the moment I don't have much spare time so I just write whenever I can. I'll try and be more organised in summer when I've finished school and can dedicate more time to shopping and blogging.
3 - What are your life ambitions?
To be successful and be the best at what I do. I don't know what's going to happen in the future but I'd like to always have blogging as a hobby.
4 - What is your favourite blog post to write?
Probably reviews of products that not many people have heard of, it's nice to think that my blog post could change someone's opinion or convince them to buy something.
5 - If you could make your own makeup/beauty product, what would it be and why?
Tough question, I've honestly never thought about it before but maybe blusher. As much as I love Tanya Burr, I think that releasing nail polish and lipgloss is quite safe so I'd choose something like blusher or concealer.
6 - Best childhood experience that you want to live again?
I don't want to relive any part of my childhood, it wasn't bad but I much prefer the group of friends I have now and I'm a lot happier in myself.
7 - Is there anything you'd like to learn in the future?
There's so much that I want to learn, but that's why it's good that you never stop learning. Currently I want to learn everything I need to know for my GCSE's and in makeup I'd like to learn how to do winged eyeliner.
8 - If you could give one makeup tip to beginners, what would it be?
Don't follow the trends. If you don't want to wear eyeliner or have Cara Delevingne style eyebrows, don't. Have your own style and then you won't have to worry about being judged or doing it wrong.
9 - Who is your inspiration and how have they inspired you?
I don't really have a specific person who inspires me, in terms of the career I want I really look up to Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds or Abby from NCIS but I wouldn't say they're my inspiration.
10 - What is your least favourite thing about blogging?
There's nothing I dislike about blogging, but I'd definitely do it more if it took up less of my time. It's hard to complete blog posts as I just add to them whenever I have time, so that's got to be my least favourite thing.
11 - What is your favourite item of clothing you own, why?
This is a tough question for me as I'm more into beauty than fashion, but I'm hoping to change that when I join sixth form next year. My favourite item of clothing is probably my New Look Leggings as I wear them every single day (obviously not always the same pair). I have a big bum and big hips but I'm short so it's hard to find jeans that fit me everywhere comfortably so leggings are a safe option and I can wear them with so many different tops.

Daydream Nation / Film Review

I'm pretty sure the majority of people reading this blog will never have heard of this film, let alone seen it, but hopefully I can convince you to change that as it really is worth watching - if I don't give the spoilers away, that is.

I first stumbled across this movie a few weeks ago when I was searching for a film about a forbidden romance, this one happens to involve a teacher/student relationship which is honestly one of my guilty pleasures. I did a bit of research before watching it but it didn't seem to be very popular and even after watching it I'm still unsure as to why that is.

The basic storyline involves Caroline (Kat Deenings) moving to a small town, with her dad, where she joins a high school full of people who are high on drugs. She befriends one of these druggies who is called Thurston (Reece Thompson) and later goes on to have sex with him in a car. However at the same time she is having an affair with her English teacher Mr Anderson (Josh Lucas), which at first is really cute but towards the end he becomes slightly deranged.

I did really enjoy watching this film, but there was a crazy amount of pre-modification so I always felt like I knew what was going to happen. It's hard for me to give any examples without giving away any spoilers, but what I will say is that if you do watch it, pay attention to the story that Mr Anderson has written, it's full of clues for the ending.

One thing I loved about Daydream Nation was most of the things said by Caroline in the voice overs

'There are some things which are destined to occur, and nobody in the world can do anything to stop it'

'For a while there it seemed like craziness was in the air and we were all just breathing it in'

'I'm not here to save you. I'm the main character of my life.'

It was so thoughtful and the messages could be applied to anyone's life.

The only things I didn't like about this film was the ending and the constant drugs references, but the ending is just my personal choice and I didn't want to not watch it just because there was a lot of drug taking.

Overall I would really recommend this film, however make sure you're an appropriate age as there's a lot of swearing, drugs, sex and inappropriate relationships.

Collection Shimmer Shades / Review

I feel like I've had this quad forever, I used to wear it all the time until for some reason I stopped and then rediscovered it in the back of my drawer earlier this week. This product is made by Collection and is around £4 so that works out at £1 per shade which is such a good deal, especially for the quality that you get. I've never tried a high-end blush so I can't compare it to a more well known product, but compared to what I know it's well pigmented.

I think the range of colours is good as there's a highlight shade, a bronze, a peachy pink, and a darker bronze. I'm really bad at knowing the tone of a product, but I'm pretty sure that these are warm toned which is why I'd recommend them for a tanned skin tone. I wear NC20 and I have to be quite wary of the amount I apply as it can look fake, but like most blushers if you apply to correct amount it looks natural.
On a normal day I wear either of the 2 right hand side shades (ring and middle finger swatches) depending on the look I want to go for; the bronze makes me looked more tanned so I use it on my cheekbones, but the peach shade makes me look flushed so I use to it add more colour to my face.
In my opinion the least pigmented shade is the pale highlighting shade but the shimmer does come through so I suppose it does its job. My least worn shade is the darkest as I can't find a way to wear it that's natural, it's too shimmery for a contour, but it's too dark to be worn on the cheeks.

I still really love this quad and will continue to wear it until I discover or rediscover a new favourite. I'd be really interested in trying the quad of 4 pink blush shades they do called Blushalicious.

Have you tried this way-to-glow quad by Collection or the other one they sell called Blushalicious? What do you think of them?

The Month Of January / 2014

January has been such a busy month for me even though the pictures I've taken might not show it. It honestly feels like I haven't had a day to myself, just relaxing, since the Christmas holidays, and although that was only a month ago I find it important to have a day off the stress of school every once in a while.
When I started thinking about everything that's happened to me during January I actually couldn't believe that so many things could fit into one month! On my second day back at school after the holidays I had to start my exam prep work for art and was told that I've only got 2 months between starting it and doing the 10 hour long exam in mid March, I always work really slowly in art so even now I'm wondering how I'm going to complete it.
Thursday the 9th was probably one of the highlights for me this month as I received my results for the English Language exam I sat in November. The exam board decided to change the setup of this exam during the summer, which is when everyone in my year group was already halfway through the course so for parts of our work to count we had to sit the exam about 6 months early. I ended up with an A which I'm so proud of, I put so much time and effort into it and I'm so glad it paid off.
However, then I had to focus on the mock exam week where I had to do at least one exam for all of my GCSE subjects. It was by far the most stressed I've ever been, I actually really surprised myself. I never get nervous for exams, I've sat a few proper exams before and I've never felt butterflies in my stomach beforehand, and I still didn't feel them during my mock week. It was at home that I got the most anxious, even though I didn't realise it at the time. I'm pretty confident I've passed them all as its very rare that I get below a C, but I know that I need to try so much harder in May/June. Although I really hated that week, I feel a lot more prepared for my real exams.
It's crazy to think that my exams will have started in under 3 and a half months, but I've had to start looking beyond that to prom. And I've found my prom dress. I haven't bought it yet as I'm scared that being too organised could end up bad, but I feel so much happier now I've found a dress that I do like.

I really hope that February is a less crazy month, but I know that as the time until my exams decreases, my life is only going to get busier. Do you have any tips for coping with the stress of exams?
